Week 1 - 8.16.2024

If yall were around when I first built this website, I had a page called "Resources For Artists". In a way, I'm bringing it back, but in the form of this blog. I like this format a lot better because it gives me a vehicle to discuss certain topics in a more lengthy fashion, rather than just throwing in links here and there and calling it a day. I've been finding it harder and harder to keep up with social media nowadays that doesn't revolve around doomscrolling. Regardless, I hope I can keep up at least on a weekly basis.

Old Book Illustrations

https://www.oldbookillustrations.com/

Title says it all, mostly 18th century illustrations of various subjects, from people, to animals, to environments. All of these drawings are categorized in various ways, such as by technique, by name, by format, etc. A great resource for studying naturalistic drawings/paintings.

Out of Print Archives

The 90's and early 00's were a time when video game magazines were at the height of their popularity. This archive helps to capture that time with full-resolution scannings of these magazines, free to access and download. I used one of the pages I found on here as a background for a recent sketch posted on my artstation. This website is great for collage-style backgrounds just given the density of the magazine format.

Bull of Heaven - Discography

http://www.bullofheaven.com/

Not necessarily an artist resource per say (unless you're looking for samples), but just a straight up recommendation for anyone who's into ambient music/psych rock. While it seems the majority of their work is electronic, they have some rock-oriented tracks, and out of the 333 tracks that are available on their website, the rock tracks are few and far between. My favorite track "Self-Traitor, I Do Bring the Spider Love" is esscentially a 90 minute improvised jazzy psych-rock jam sesh that builds and builds and builds all the way till the end. The rest of their catalogue is a pretty diverse set of soundscapes, and there are definitly gems I'm leaving out, as I just discovered this band super recently.

Anyways, I'm stickin' to three links a week for now at the minimum. Be sure to keep track, though! I have much to share in the future :^)
